Dr Scott Sledge

Scott L. Sledge, MD

Orthopaedic Surgeon

A diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Sledge specializes in surgical and non-surgical treatment of the shoulder joint only. Dr. Sledge's particular area of expertise is the use of minimally invasive, arthroscopic techniques for treatment of shoulder problems. He performs approximately 400 of these technically demanding procedures per year. However, Dr. Sledge first seeks to treat patients non-operatively if their conditions warrant such care, and he has extensive clinical experience doing so since beginning private practice here in San Antonio in 1991.

Dr. Sledge underwent surgery on his shoulder in high school and became interested in how his shoulder was repaired by his surgeon Jack Williamson. At a follow up visit, Dr. Williamson explained the surgery to Dr. Sledge and offered him a visit to the OR to observe surgery. After watching Dr. Williamson perform surgery Dr. Sledge decided to become a shoulder surgeon and attended UT Austin a few years later studying premed. His mentor Dr. Williamson remains a close friend to this day.

Dr. Sledge's education in medicine began in 1981 at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas where he graduated in 1985 at the top of his class. He then studied Orthopaedic Surgery during his residency through the University of Texas Southwestern program in Dallas. In 1990, Dr Sledge completed a one-year Sports Medicine and Shoulder Fellowship at the prestigious Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado training under Dr. Richard Hawkins, an internationally recognized shoulder specialist.

Currently Dr. Sledge is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, Texas Medical Association, Bexar County Medical Society and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Sledge and his staff consider each patient unique and strive to provide individualized care to every person who is seen at the office.
